Netflix, Spotify and JioCinemas in India

Social drivers

In the ever-evolving landscape of consumer needs, the BLAC framework offers a compelling lens to understand how products and services transition from latent to blatant needs. Take Netflix and Spotify, for instance. Initially, these platforms were latent aspirational needs in India, but the advent of smartphones and affordable data transformed them into blatant aspirational needs. Their vast social acceptance and ease of access have made them critical for keeping connected with what friends and family are watching.

The Olympics as a use case

Similarly, JioCinemas revolutionized the viewing experience for the Paris Olympics by addressing the latent and critical need for comprehensive live coverage, something a single channel could never achieve. These examples vividly illustrate how technological advancements and social dynamics drive the evolution of consumer needs, making certain services blatant and even critical in certain cases like the olmypics.
